Hoyt Library
Saginaw Landmark Building
Open since 1890

Our group had the opportnity to investigate one of the oldest public buildings in Saginaw.  This building has stood for over a century.  It opened to the public in 1890.  The outer walls of the building are made of limestone.  Limestone is theorized to be a conduit for paranormal activity.  This building has been renovated in 1921, 1960, and 1991-1994.  Each renovation improved the building yet maintaining its original form.

We investigated the site on 3 occasions.  It was important to us to collect data in a complete manner.  Each time the group separated into  different teams to collect data as well as to evaluate and reevaluate areas of the building.

A common report from visitors and staff is a feeling of being watched in the attic and basement areas.  During one of the renovations, an electrician reported reaching up into the ceiling to do work and feeling "someone" grab his hand.  This man never returned to finish the work at the site.  This anecdotal evidence is very interesting, however Michigan Paranormal Seekers feel it is important to provide solid evidence to explain these claims.

Investigators were Pat, Amy, Marci, Amanda, Stephanie, Janice, Tanya and Dan.  We divided into 3 groups.  On this investigation, we spent more time in the stairwell doing evp work.  We also investigated the main level (as in the original plan).  The group used digital voice recorders, video cameras, motion detectors, infrared thermometers, and EMF detectors.  One group spent 20 minutes doing an evp session where the evp's were discovered on Feb 16th.  No evp's were found.  On the main level the groups found many false readings on the EMF due to electrical equipment to run the computers in the floor.  We did get a strong reading about 6ft in front of the auditorium doors.  While investigating the cause for the readings a childlike voice was detected in audio.  As with all evp's the voice was not heard by any members, but found on audio in later review.

Patricia, Marci, Tonya and Amy were the investigators at the site.  The investigation started with a tour of the building, organization of equipment and planning.  The bulk of the time was spent in the basement of the building and in the stairwell leading to the original entry to the building.  We used 2 digital cameras, 1 video camera, 2 digital voice recorders, a motion detector, and an infrared thermometer.

In the stairwell the temperature dropped significantly 10 degrees.  The ambient temperature of this area was 67 degrees F.  In the middle of the stairwell (away from the window), the temp dropped to 57 degrees F.  Incidentally at this time investigators caught EVPs.  The motion detector also went off at this time.  However, we debunked this.  When we stood at the bottom landing 6ft away, the motion detector caught movement of some of our taller investigators but not the lead investigator who is 5 inches shorter.  Originally this led us to believe that the motion detector was going off randomly.  By careful investigation and data collection we found otherwise.

We found some mist in photos taken in the basement.  No video evidence was found.  We got some strong evp evidence in the stairwell.  click the links to the left to review our evp evidence.

This Investigation focused on the main area and the attic.  A video feed was set up in the building's "original" entryway.  Investigators spent 30 minutes with digital cameras trying to recreate and debunk the photo from the March 8th investigation.  The picture could not be recreated.  The only theory other than paranormal was that this was the most vacant area of the balcony and the camera was trying to focus itself on something causing the mist.  However we could not recreate the effect.  We also did some evp work in the attic and the main area near the fireplace.  No evp evidence was found.  We also did not get the same EMF readings as in the last investigation near the auditorium and fireplace.  In the attic area, investigators did hear a noise which vibrated the table that could not be explained.    The experience was caught on audio.  Listen on the link below.

Who bumped the table?

Many investigators did get subjective"feelings" while investigating the attic.  However, we could not validate it with objective data.
